Autumn Beach Treasure

Autumn is one of our favourite times anywhere on the NSW coast. The water is usually still quite warm, winds often light from the west, the blues of the ocean deeper and the crowds have gone! Sometimes it feels like people just forget to go to the beach once summer ends, which makes the many beaches and rock pools of the south coast the ideal playground for you and your family.  We love exploring the rockpools at Werri Beach, Walkers Beach, Shelly and Seven Mile/Gerroa Beach where these pics have been taken…. all just moments from The Shed.

Wine O’Clock

One of the many surprise discoveries we’ve had in our South Coast adventures, is the amount of amazing wineries there are just a stones throw away. With Autumn now upon us, it seems like the perfect time to be sitting in front of a roaring fire sipping on a freshly acquired glass of red from one of the local Cellar Doors. It’s not a bad way to get out of the wet weather either, as we did a few weeks ago having lunch & enjoying the view at Crooked River Wines

Wineries are located everywhere from Gerringong to Kangaroo Valley and Shoalhaven Heads to Bawley Point, and you can sample many of them at the 12th Annual Shoalhaven Coast Winter Wine Festival which is held over the June Long Weekend.

Cheers!

Waves

The South Coast is well known for its great range of waves, both beach and reef breaks, with a couple of the more famous ones just under an hour from The Shed. Thankfully there are usually plenty of quality waves on offer closer by, with some amazing local talent pushing their skills to the limit at the local beaches. You might even catch locals Sally Fitzgibbons & Owen Wright tearing it up between stops on the ASP World Tour. Whether you’re prepared to get amongst the busier bussle of Werri on weekends or head further up or down the coast to find some quieter quality – you’ll be sure to get some nice ones. And if you’re just starting out, Gerroa is known as one of the friendliest learner waves around!

Changing Rooms

One of the aims of The Shed was to create a spacious weekender with versatile spaces. We are hoping to achieve this through large flexible spaces; A bunk room that can be partitioned if need be, high ceilings throughout allowing a loft space to be included down the  track, and large doors creating an internal breezeway or sitting room – depending on the weather.  You won’t find a better example of this concept than in the kitchen!

Gerroa Beach

Seven Mile Beach or ‘Gerroa Beach’ as it’s known to the locals, is an incredible stretch of beach to the South of THE SHED.  Fine white sand that seems to roll on forever (for 7 miles in fact!), sheltered rock pool areas and rolling waves in the Northern corner perfect for snorkelling or learning to surf and when the wind hits down beach an incredible playground for daredevil kite and wind surfers. The Doors

As part of the design of THE SHED, we have two large doors that open to create an internal breezeway or indoor/outdoor space. The idea is to allow extra internal space during the cooler months and have a cool covered area during the warmer months, which we can expose or protect from prevailing breezes or winds respectively.

The North door is a glass fold up door 4 metres wide x 3 metres high and the Southern breezeway door is a ‘massive sliding wall’ also 4 metres wide…

Wrapt in Black

Black is bold!
So it was a bold decision to decide on black for THE SHED.
We had decided on a Colorbond finish for the entire exterior of THE SHED, we then just had to narrow down our colour palette. We knew we wanted a dark tone, but when originally looking the only colours available where Ironstone, Deep Ocean or Monument, as their black colour ‘NightSky’ had been discontinued. While we liked Monument we were never 100% sold. Fortunately by the time it came to order we were informed by Colorbond, by popular demand, ‘Nightsky’ was once again available. The decision was made, it was bold and beautiful.

Here’s THE SHED getting wrapped in black…

Walkers Beach

This magical spot is the backdrop to the picturesque Gerringong Golf Course and only a hop skip and a jump away from us. We are lucky enough to view this stunning secluded beach from THE SHED, which at times can offer some great wedgy beach breaks, salmon and tailor according to the local fisherman, and rock pool fun for the kids. Walkers Beach is only accessible through the North end of Gerringong Golf Course.
