Sweet Dreams

A weekend away with family and friends is about fun, good times and relaxing… and ideally having a great sleep in and being spoilt with breakfast in bed. Hey, you deserve it! THE SHED has something for everyone with two bedrooms and a bunk room.

The Master Suite has incredible views across the green and down to the ocean blue. The huge King Size bed with custom black pallet base sits under a soaring 5.5 metre plywood ceiling which creates warmth. Beyond the bedhead is the ensuite complete with a deep clawfoot bath.

The second bedroom is a simple and beautiful room with high ceilings and french doors to the North, and features a Queen bed.

The bunk room is a huge kids/family and entertainment room which contains two double bunks, both with pull out trundle beds.

Whichever room you find yourself in, enjoy… Sweet Dreams!

Wine O’Clock

FullSizeRender-2

One of the many surprise discoveries we’ve had in our South Coast adventures, is the amount of amazing wineries there are just a stones throw away. With Autumn now upon us, it seems like the perfect time to be sitting in front of a roaring fire sipping on a freshly acquired glass of red from one of the local Cellar Doors. It’s not a bad way to get out of the wet weather either, as we did a few weeks ago having lunch & enjoying the view at Crooked River Wines

Wineries are located everywhere from Gerringong to Kangaroo Valley and Shoalhaven Heads to Bawley Point, and you can sample many of them at the 12th Annual Shoalhaven Coast Winter Wine Festival which is held over the June Long Weekend.

Cheers!

Bale Hay While the Sun Shines

Surrounded to the east and south by neighbouring farmland, one of the best things about The Shed Gerroa, is being able to sit back and watch a lot or very little happen. Whether it’s watching the cows amble by, the golf carts zip along the fairways of Gerringong Golf Course in the distance or the swells march up the coast – there is always something to take in. Recently our neighbours had their many acres hay baled which made for interesting viewing. The kids loved the show!

Wash up

We love our bathrooms at The Shed!!! Seriously!

Industrial features means lots of concrete, steel, corrugated iron and plywood. Details like gal pipe towel rails, bain marie pans as storage and custom benches all add to this unique theme.  A vintage cast iron bath, large square basins and simple tap ware complete the picture. Luxurious bathrobes, towels and radiant heating add warmth and absolutely no tiles at all means super easy to clean!

Washing up has never been so easy….

Christmas at The Shed

Christmas is always marked as a line in the sand for things to be completed and The Shed was no different.  It felt like a race to the finish line with a great prize awaiting us.  We were very excited to spend our first Christmas at The Shed with the kids and our extended family and friends – and here is what it looked like….

Shibori Style

I have always loved the art of the handmade and ancient crafts.  The recent interiors trend of Shibori dyeing was one technique I had to try.  Shibori is a very old Japanese technique of dyeing cloth and dates back to the 8th century with Indigo being the main dye used.

There are an infinite number of ways you can bind, stitch, twist and fold the cloth for Shibori and each technique results in very different patterns …opening the fabric to reveal the pattern you have created is always a great moment of excitement!!

Following is my attempt at making Shibori dyed cushions for The Shed’s  breezeway daybed,  but to see how the professionals do it try here … Shibori

Light Up

Lighting was such an important detail to get right at The Shed.  The type of light fitting not only had to suit the room it was lighting up but we soon learnt the size of the lights were on a scale we weren’t used to… lights that would look right in a normal home looked like toy lights in The Shed!

Here are some of our lighting choices…

Changing Rooms

One of the aims of The Shed was to create a spacious weekender with versatile spaces. We are hoping to achieve this through large flexible spaces; A bunk room that can be partitioned if need be, high ceilings throughout allowing a loft space to be included down the  track, and large doors creating an internal breezeway or sitting room – depending on the weather.  You won’t find a better example of this concept than in the kitchen!
