MAD MAX’s Local Legends!

There’s nothing quite as visually exciting as the many vehicles that star as the road warriors of MAD MAX: Fury Road’s post industrial apocalypse. We think a couple of them would look well suited parked outside THE SHED! So we were thrilled to read about a couple of South Coast locals who worked on the film for the last 5 years as both head truck mechanic & metal worker for the cinematic juggernaut.

Autumn Beach Treasure

Autumn is one of our favourite times anywhere on the NSW coast. The water is usually still quite warm, winds often light from the west, the blues of the ocean deeper and the crowds have gone! Sometimes it feels like people just forget to go to the beach once summer ends, which makes the many beaches and rock pools of the south coast the ideal playground for you and your family.  We love exploring the rockpools at Werri Beach, Walkers Beach, Shelly and Seven Mile/Gerroa Beach where these pics have been taken…. all just moments from The Shed.

Come and Stay…

Waves

The South Coast is well known for its great range of waves, both beach and reef breaks, with a couple of the more famous ones just under an hour from The Shed. Thankfully there are usually plenty of quality waves on offer closer by, with some amazing local talent pushing their skills to the limit at the local beaches. You might even catch locals Sally Fitzgibbons & Owen Wright tearing it up between stops on the ASP World Tour. Whether you’re prepared to get amongst the busier bussle of Werri on weekends or head further up or down the coast to find some quieter quality – you’ll be sure to get some nice ones. And if you’re just starting out, Gerroa is known as one of the friendliest learner waves around!

Gerroa Beach

Seven Mile Beach or ‘Gerroa Beach’ as it’s known to the locals, is an incredible stretch of beach to the South of THE SHED.  Fine white sand that seems to roll on forever (for 7 miles in fact!), sheltered rock pool areas and rolling waves in the Northern corner perfect for snorkelling or learning to surf and when the wind hits down beach an incredible playground for daredevil kite and wind surfers. Wrapt in Black

Black is bold!
So it was a bold decision to decide on black for THE SHED.
We had decided on a Colorbond finish for the entire exterior of THE SHED, we then just had to narrow down our colour palette. We knew we wanted a dark tone, but when originally looking the only colours available where Ironstone, Deep Ocean or Monument, as their black colour ‘NightSky’ had been discontinued. While we liked Monument we were never 100% sold. Fortunately by the time it came to order we were informed by Colorbond, by popular demand, ‘Nightsky’ was once again available. The decision was made, it was bold and beautiful.

Here’s THE SHED getting wrapped in black…

Slab & Steel

The last few months have been an amazing experience as we witnessed the early stages of construction of THE SHED.  From watching the pouring of our giant slab and the meticulous work of our concreters, to the touch and go placement of the enormous steel ‘A’ frames that would form the ‘backbone’ of THE SHED and the galvanised steel purlins that would form the ‘skeleton’.  There was a lot at stake as all these elements would ultimately be exposed and a main feature of THE SHED, true to industrial architecture.

Ready, Set, Build

Day One: the digger is a diggin’
Super excited to see excavation work start today, (not so happy to see our beautiful green grass getting ripped up!) … so the ground can be levelled in preparation for the 33 x 6 metre concrete slab.
